April adventures: museums, gardens and festive celebrations

Highlights
to read

There is so much to explore at our museums, galleries, and gardens throughout April.

Our Botanic Garden is set in beautiful mature woodlands and offers a wide variety of landscapes to discover.

Local green woodworker, Chris Helliwell, will be demonstrating his traditional wood-turning crafts skills on Sunday 14 April, 10am – 4pm. So why not come along to the Botanic Garden for an opportunity to have a go?

World Heritage Day celebrations

Celebrate World Heritage Day at Durham Castle with a unique experience day.

Start with a wholesome brunch in the Great Hall and take in the beautiful surroundings before one of the knowledgeable tour guides takes you on a bespoke tour of the castle.

Full details are on our Things to do website and tickets are priced at £15.

Or why not enjoy a free self-guided visit and our re-enactment group, Vanguard, showcasing Norman weapons and battling in the castle courtyard?

Activities for children, colouring and dressing up will be available in the Great Hall.

Our friendly guides and volunteers will be around Durham Castle to answer your questions and share some of the stories and hidden history of the Castle.
