Women@DU is a network that brings together staff who identify as women from across the University to share experiences, opportunities and knowledge, offering mutual support and a networking space to discuss issues as a group.
The network was started in March 2019 to bring together colleagues in an inclusive community, regardless of grade or role within the University.
We spoke to the current Chair of the network, Kate Fox-Robinson from St John’s College, to find out more about the network and what people looking to join can expect in 2025!
What are the aims of the Women@DU network?
Connectivity is so important to each of us, the space to be seen, heard and to make a meaningful contribution. So much of this is unquantifiable, but we all know what it feels like to enter a room and sense an atmosphere of welcome and belonging.
The Women@DU network is made up of a collective of women across the University who seek and offer connection in social ways as well as more organised efforts around a particular common issue.
What has happened at the network so far?
Most recently, Women@DU coordinated a series of banners which featured women across the University - staff and students - showcasing various aspects of what builds our community.
The banners of the nominated Heroines featured not only the individuals’ job or studies, but also another key aspect of who they are. We have mountain climbers, bakers, outdoor swimmers, pool sharks, and music composers in our midst!
Our efforts were focused on celebrating this snapshot of talent and now we are exploring our next endeavor.
You can read more about the exhibition and find out more about our fantastic Women of the Year and our amazing nominees on the Women@DU SharePoint.
Do you have regular meetings?
We have a planning committee which meets informally in person and formally online to create opportunities for connection throughout the year. We are currently recruiting a second co-chair and increasing the diversity of skills across our planning committee to make sure everyone who wants to be included knows how to get involved.
What plans does the network have for future activities?
We’re looking to arrange a more significant event around International Women’s Day alongside more low-key collaborative opportunities throughout the year. These are advertised on our Women@DU Teams channel for all our members. Our primary purpose is to create spaces where women have the opportunity to listen to one another, find encouragement and together create possibility for change.
Who can join the network?
Women@DU is open to all who identify as women at any grade or role within the University. We are always open to ideas and new momentum.
Where can staff find out more?
You can find out more about the Women@DU network over on our SharePoint site, as well as instructions on how to join our Teams channel!
