As summer comes to a close and we begin a new academic year, there’s often a surge of support tickets that come into the IT Service Desk from new students joining Durham and returning students and staff getting back into the swing of university life.
We’ve pulled together our top tips to point you in the right direction if you need a helping hand!
Locked out? Here’s how to quickly reset your password
If you forget your password and get locked out, you won’t be able to access any of your accounts, including My Digital Durham. To reset your password, you’ll need to head over to the passwords page on our website. We recommend you bookmark this page on your internet browser so you can quickly access the page if you need it.

Add Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) to multiple devices
If you lose your phone or get a new device, and don’t have MFA set up, you will get locked out of your university IT account. We recommend adding MFA to another device (up to five devices) to ensure you can always get into your account without relying on only having your current phone.

Refresh yourself on how to use technology in meeting rooms and classrooms
With hybrid working it’s easy to feel rusty when using the technology that you’re not using every day anymore. Head over to our Audio and Visual (AV) pages on My Digital Durham to find out what technology is in rooms before booking and check out the equipment guides for all the devices available to help you use them.

Keep your campus card safe
Your campus card is your University ID, giving you access to certain buildings and facilities. If you lose your card or have it stolen, you need to full out the campus card replacement form. If your card has expired or it’s not working, you can get a replacement by booking an appointment at the Bill Bryson library.

Easily connect to the WiFi
Durham uses Eduroam, which is an international network with hundreds of member institutions. This means you can also access WiFi at other member institutions using your Durham University log in details. Enjoy fast, stable and reliable internet access today!
