Staff find advice on financial issues

to read

Last month, colleagues in the Estates and Facilities Maintenance Services Team got the chance to find information to help tackle the cost of living at a special drop-in event.

And on 30 May, a similar event is being held to offer more colleagues details about what they can do to help with financial issues brought on by increasing living costs.

Organised by HR-OD staff, the event will provide a number of market stalls hosting resources that can help. This includes support the University offers such as the employee benefits and discounts scheme which can cut the cost of everyday shopping and big ticket purchases.

Alongside the financial information, colleagues can get help with any questions around pay and pensions, and find out about courses and opportunities to help you develop at work, as well as details about apprenticeships.

Claire Hunter, Head of OD Business Partnering, said: “Our first financial wellbeing event was really successful with more than 30 colleagues from Estates and Facilities coming along to find out about the resources and support available at the University.

Although we’re mainly aiming our next event at colleagues in Accommodation and Commercial Services, we’re opening up the invitation to all members of staff, so please do come along to find out more.

David Profit, Senior Maintenance Services Manager, said: “We have great support here at the University for emotional, physical and financial wellbeing. Recognising the importance of this support, my challenge was how to create that space and encourage the team to buy into it.

“With the help of my Business Partner we trialled a café for the Maintenance Services Team and were delighted with the take up and excited about the positive chat afterwards.

“We all need support from each other and this space offers that in a positive way.”

Come along to the next Financial Wellbeing Event any time from 8am to 11am on 30 May, on-site in the Department of Mathematical and Computing Sciences building.

Financial webinars

Alongside the drop-ins, we're also hosting two themed webinars in May: Budgeting and Keeping Track (3 May) and Credit, Borrowing & Debt 4 May).

Delivered by The Money Charity, the sessions will provide you with helpful information as well as tools and tips to manage these areas of financial wellbeing.

There are also further webinars in June and July, including a Fundamentals of Financial Wellbeing webinar on 15 June. You can find more information including how to book on the Reward Hub
