“To hear just a few of the amazing achievements of colleagues from across the University simply reinforces the fantastic work that members of staff in Professional Services do!”
Joanne Race, Director of HR-OD was speaking at the inaugural Professional Services: Inspiring the Extraordinary Awards ceremony in January.
The event saw around 130 people gather to celebrate the work of colleagues to mark their achievements by presenting awards in 11 categories.
Almost 350 members of PS staff were nominated for a new Inspiring the Extraordinary award towards the end of last year. Following a shortlisting process, 33 colleagues went forward to the final award ceremony at The Hub on the Mount Oswald site on 25 January.
Joanne continued:
To have so many people nominated for an award just goes to show how much everyone values the colleagues they work with.
“This was the first time we’ve held these awards which we hope will be an annual event to help us mark the achievements of everyone in Professional Services, and it was lovely to see everyone enjoying the ceremony.”
One of the winners was Linda Joyce who picked up the award for Making a Difference to the Environment and Sustainability. Linda said: “It was really nice just to be nominated for an award, but to actually win was brilliant!
“I think it’s great to have an event like this as it helps to recognise the good work that everyone in Professional Services does. I’d just like to say a big thank you for the nomination and well done to everyone who picked up an award today.”
Abby Shovlin, who won the Outstanding Colleague (Academic) award, said: "It's great that we have these awards and I was really pleased to win in my category.
"The whole event was like an injection of happiness! It was lovely to see so many people being recognised and to hear about the achievements of colleagues from across the University."
Joanne continued: “It was a pleasure to meet everyone at the ceremony and I’d like to congratulate all the nominees and thank every member of staff who took the time to nominate a colleague."
