A celebration of photography – our winners

to read

To mark World Photography Day back in August, we invited people to enter our first ever Dialogue photography competition.

We asked our Durham community to submit their best photographs on the themes of Durham University:

·     buildings in the community

·     people in the community, and or

·     projects in the community

We loved seeing all your submissions and we are now pleased to announce the winners.

Durham University buildings in the community

Our winner in this category is Lotta Vaananen, Performing Arts Administrator, Student Enrichment.

Congratulations Lotta!

Our team of judges said:

We loved seeing a new perspective on a building that many of our staff, students and residents see every day! We also loved the juxtaposition between the greenery and the brutalist architecture of Dunelm House.

Durham University people in the community

Our winner in this category is Harry Cotterill, Josephine Butler College.

Well done and congratulations Harry.

The judges thought:

This image brilliantly captured the vibrant way in which Durham bustles with energy of the people that live, work and study here! The photo takes us off in so many different directions, with multiple areas of interest and intrigue.

Durham University projects in the community

Unfortunately there weren't enough entries in this category for the judging panel to decide on a winner.

We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who submitted their favourite impressions of Durham. We certainly enjoyed seeing all of the wonderful submissions.

The judging panel involved a number of colleagues from across the University. Congratulations to both our winners, who each received a £25 voucher. Keep an eye out on future editions for more competitions in the future.
