Durham City 10K for breast cancer

to read

July will see the return of Durham City Run Festival and Durham University is supporting the event as a major partner. The festival will take place on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 July, with events throughout the city and at our venues.

A team composed of a member of staff from our Department of Geography, a college mentor and an alumna is taking on the historic streets of Durham for the Durham City Run Festival’s 10K to fundraise for a local charity, Buddy_Cups.

Buddy_Cups is a Durham-based breast cancer support group that provides invaluable support for anyone who has been affected by a breast cancer diagnosis, directly or indirectly.

They provide a space to connect people who are going through or have been through similar journeys, hosting regular meet-ups, activities, and workshops.

Why Buddy_Cups?

Danette Sitorius from our Department of Geography said: "We chose to run for Buddy_Cups as we believe in the value and benefits that community brings - especially during difficult seasons of life where extra support is needed."

"Each one of us is personally connected to the people behind the charity and we have also got friends and family members who were, or are, on a journey with breast cancer.”

Danette Sitorus supports the delivery of teaching alongside ongoing research work in the department as an Advanced Teaching Laboratory Technician.

She is joined by Jeremy Goulding, a mentor at Josephine Butler College and chaplain for the Durham Christian Partnership, and Julia Moldawan, a civil servant and Durham alumna who read Psychology and has an MA in Social Research Methods.

Good luck to them all!
