Looking back at LGBT+ History Month

to read

LGBT+ History month occurs each February and is a celebration of the history of the LGBT+ community worldwide.

As March 2022 saw the 50th anniversary of the very first Pride in 1972 we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate and support our staff and students.

We had a number of events taking place for staff and students to attend throughout the month, from ‘New Perspectives on Queer Cinema’ with two of our PhD students, to a 5-a-side charity football tournament hosted in partnership with North East Rainbow Alliance.

We also shared information about the resources and support available to our staff and students, and invited our University community to help us diversify our libraries and collections. Take a look at our reading list of all the titles we have added to our collections through the Liberate My Library initiative.

Sharing experiences

LGBT+ History Month means many things to many people, so we asked what the celebration meant to our community.

Take a look at the blogs over on our website, where we hear different perspectives from our staff and students on why LGBT+ History Month is important to them.

Visit the LGBT+ History Month website for more information, or take a look at our website to find out more about Equality, Diversity and Inclusion here at Durham.
