International Women's Day 2022 - our round-up

to read

Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality.

Tuesday 8 March was International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

We had so much going on in, and around the University including the work of our teams, students and external partners. Here at Durham, we marked the occasion with a number of special events and activities.

Our Vice-Chancellor and Warden, Professor Karen O’Brien, was joined by other leaders from across the region at an online event called ‘Meet the women levelling up in the North East’.

Elsewhere more than 400 people live streamed our International Women’s Day concert, organised by our Department of Music.

We’ve also had more than 800 views of our International Women’s Day campaign site. Head over there and take a look at some of the fantastic news, activities and achievements of our women – staff, students and alumni alike.

Featured on our campaign site is the incredible story of Professor Sue Black who shares how she became an award-winning Professor of Computer Science, technology evangelist and champion of women in science.
