Get involved with the Durham Energy Institute

to read

Durham Energy Institute (DEI) is the hub for energy research and activity at Durham University, and unlocks research synergies between different disciplines and sectors to tackle the energy demands of the future. The institute produces world class research for understanding energy decarbonisation issues across science and society, so that we can deliver integrated solutions for the climate emergency.

The institute aims to support race to net zero through research, information exchange, thought leadership and bringing together key organisations from a variety of sectors to address the energy challenges being faced at local, regional, national and international levels.

Our world leading research focuses on making renewable technologies cheaper and more efficient, developing future energy technologies, designing energy systems which are smart and people-centred and understanding the social, economic and political processes that shape the energy world in order to build a brighter and fairer energy future.

Durham Energy Institute research and activities

DEI welcomes engagement from across the University's Departments and Faculties.

We run a regular series of seminars, which currently take place online and are open to everyone - hosting research conversations on new energy topics of interest.

We’re also here to help you get to know other Durham researchers or students with relevant interests to you and can provide research support, develop new projects or make links with industry, government and community organisations.

Our open call for applications to become a DEI Fellow is active now, with Fellows benefitting from our exceptional academic, industrial and political links at local, national and international level.

We also support a number of Masters on Energy, including MSc Sustainability, Energy and Development; Master Energy Systems Management and MSc New and Renewable Energy, as well as the Durham Student Energy Society and their student/industry mentoring scheme.
