Infrastructure improvement project completion

to read

We are pleased to announce that our infrastructure improvement project was completed in summer 2021.

The safety of our students, staff, visitors, and members of the public is of utmost importance to us and we have invested circa £6.7 million in roads, cycle and footpaths, a new car park and associated infrastructure around South Road and Hollingside Lane.

We hope that these improvements will enable more of our staff and students to choose sustainable travel options and we have worked hard to ensure as many people as possible can use the new and improved routes, including accessibility features wherever possible.

Through the project which commenced in December 2019, we have built new cycle ways and improved existing footpaths, created new ones, and developed a new car park at Upper Mountjoy.

We’re pleased that the project supports the environment, with improvements for biodiversity and nature conservation.

To help users navigate the new and improved routes, signs were installed where necessary.

The new car park will mitigate the removal of parking spaces elsewhere on the University site. It will also support efforts to reduce congestion and air pollution closer to the city centre
